Fog disrupts 90 flights at KIA

Bengaluru: Poor visibility disrupted 90 flight arrivals and departures at the Kempegowda International Airport here on Tuesday morning.

This is the first major impact of fog this season, according to an airport spokesperson. Fifty-one departures were delayed, as visibility dropped to just 50 metres.

Most delays were recorded between 5 am and 8.25 am. Fog-related disruptions are expected to increase as temperatures drop during winter.

Visibility values are determined with the help of special equipment installed by the meteorological department.

Many passengers had to wait long hours at the airport. However, the airlines did their best to ensure the inconvenience was minimised.

Four international flights — one each of British Airways, Air Mauritius, Jet Airways and Indigo — took off late. The freighter flights of FedEx, Blue Dart and Singapore Cargo were also delayed.

Visibility problems also delayed the arrival of 27 flights, including an international schedule by British Airways and two cargo flights of Blue Dart and Singapore Cargo.
