Fog disrupts air traffic at Karipur

Thick fog disrupted flight operations to and from Karipur Airport Friday morning causing nine inbound flights to be diverted to other airports.
Airport Director K Janardhanan said that low visibility caused by the fog affected flight operations at the airport for four hours from 5.30 am to 9.30 am.
Four Air India Express flights- from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Dammam- along with Air India flights from Sharjah and Dubai were diverted to the Nedumbassery Airport.
Oman Air flight from Muscat and Etihad flight from Abu Dhabi were diverted to Thiruvananthapuram Airport while the Spice Jet flight from Chennai was diverted to the Coimbatore airport due to the adverse weather conditions.
All diverted flights arrived at the airport later in the day after considerable delays thereby delaying the return flights as well.
Airport sources said that 14 flight arrivals and 13 flight departures were delayed and one flight had to be cancelled due to the adverse weather condition.
