Man held trying to smuggle gold bars

The customs department officials have seized eight gold bars, weighing 932 grams, from a passenger at the Coimbatore Airport here on early Sunday morning. The passenger, who was travelling from Sharjah in an Air Arabia flight, was detained and taken to a private hospital, where an X-ray confirmed that he was carrying the contraband items in his rectum.
Acting on a tip-off, customs sleuths intercepted Sicob, 34, of Malappuram in Kerala, at the airport and interrogated him. He initially refused to have any knowledge of the gold bars, but later confessed of hiding eight gold bars, weighing 932 grams, in his rectum. Customs officials seized the eight bars, worth a total of Rs26.44 lakh and Sicob was let out on bail.
Further investigations revealed that Sicob was just a 'carrier' and he was asked to handover the gold bar to someone in Kerala, with a promise of being paid in cash.
