1kg of gold seized from three passengers at Chennai airport

Chennai: Customs officials at Chennai airport have seized a total of 1kg of gold in three different cases in 36 hours since Saturday morning.
On Saturday morning, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs seized 330gm of gold, worth Rs 9.7 lakh, from a passenger who arrived in Chennai from Dubai on an IndiGo flight. The passenger had concealed the gold in the form of six rings attached to a lady's handbag. There were two strips and four metal key chains as well.
On Sunday morning, Customs officials found three gold bars which was concealed in the bottom of a horse and chariot decorative metal piece. The passenger came from Sharjah on an Air India flight. The total gold seized from him was 349gm, worth Rs 10.2 lakh.
On Sunday afternoon, another similar case was detected where a passenger, arriving from Dubai on an Oman Air flight, had concealed 349gm of gold, worth Rs 10.2 lakh, in the rectangular base of a showpiece.
