Chennai: The Airports Authority of India has suspended cross runway operations at the Chennai airport following an incident in which two aircraft happened to be on the same runway at the same time recently.
Cross runway operations — wherein both the main and secondary runways are used at the same time — began on a trial basis in January this year.
But sometime ago, a Coast Guard aircraft and a passenger aircraft were found on the same airstrip. This worried the AAI officials. Hence, they decided to stop cross runway operations.
