No more drenching in rain, bus to ferry fliers to and from plane at Pune

Pune airport authorities have permitted airlines to use bus services to ferry passengers to and from the aircraft to the terminal building during the monsoon.

The small apron size of the Pune airport is a major hurdle in plying of coaches (buses) on the tarmac, officials said.
An official said that the buses would be used only during the rains. “It is not possible to use the coaches all the time. But we are trying to minimise the hassles faced by passengers. Airlines which do not have coaches have been asked to take other measures to ensure that passengers are not inconvenienced,” another official pointed out.
Presently three airlines -- IndiGo, SpiceJet and Jet -- have one coach each at Pune airport, officials said.
“All the airlines have been instructed to ensure that there are enough umbrellas in reserve for passengers,” an official said.
