Hindon Airbase To Start Operating Low Cost Carrier Flights From Mid-February 2019

The biggest and largest air base in Asia will soon offer flights to passengers from Delhi to near places like Pithoragarh, Jaisalmer, Gorakhpur, Allahabad and Kannur.

The Hindon airbase which also acts as the venue for Air Force Day will be ready by mid-February next year, TOI reported. The first set of flights that have been awarded for the IAF airbase under the government’s subsidised regional connectivity scheme (RCS) will take off from Hindon.
Airport Authority of India Chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said that operation of flights from Hindon is unlikely to have any bearing on the slots of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The IGI didn’t have any vacant slots and was therefore not able to accommodate any RCS slots-on which fares are capped at Rs 2,500 per hour of flying for a certain number of seats on each flight. Hindon will instead handle these flights till IGI airport’s expansion work of a fourth runway and a bigger Terminal 1 is completed in three to four years.
