Akhilesh Yadav stopped at Lucknow airport

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday morning was stopped from boarding a special aircraft at Lucknow’s Amausi airport to Prayagraj where he was slated to attend an event organised by Allahabad University Student’s Union (AUSU) and meet seers at Kumbh. The incident triggered immediate reactions with SP members staging a walkout from both the houses of the state assembly, where sessions were underway.

SP leaders and supporters reached the Amausi airport and entered into heated exchanges with the police for stopping their party president from boarding a flight. The SP workers rushed to the airport after Akhilesh tweeted pictures some of which were apparently clicked from inside an aircraft showing men in uniform standing at the entrance stopping Akhilesh Yadav who can be seen standing on the tarmac, from entering the aircraft. "The government is afraid of a student leader's oath taking event," the former UP CM tweeted.

The AUSU, which is dominated by office bearers from SP’s student wing, had earlier invited Akhilesh for the union’s anniversary celebrations. However the AU authorities thereafter denied permission to Akhilesh to attend the event on grounds that political leaders will not be invited to attend AUSU events on the campus.
