Jaipur: The customs department at Jaipur International Airport caught a man trying to smuggle 673 grams of gold, approximately worth Rs 20 lakh, inside his turban. The man was on a flight from Bangkok.
In the first quarter of the year itself, the customs department at Jaipur Airport has seized over three kg of gold being carried into the country illegally. Most of these seizures have been made from passengers travelling from Dubai and Thailand.
The man detained has been identified as 40-year-old Sandeep Singh, who is a resident of New Delhi. He had allegedly hidden the gold in his turban and according to sources, the customs department had a tip-off about Singh smuggling the metal.
