Aurangabad: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr Bhagwat Karad said on Saturday that the Chikalthana airport here will soon be renamed as the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj International Airport.
Talking to UNI, he said that he had called on Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardip Singh Puri regarding the renaming of the rapidly developing Aurangabad airport.
The proposal for renaming of the airport has been forwarded to the Prime Minister's Office by the Civil Aviation Department and the PMO has sought information on how many more airports in the country are to be renamed, he said.
Proposals for renaming of 13 airports in the country have been sent to the PMO for approval, including three in the state like Aurangabad, Kolhapur and Shirdi, he said.
Dr Karad further said that he met Civil Aviation secretary Pradip Singh Kharola and joint secretary in the PMO Rohit Yadav on Friday and discussed the issue with them.
