AAI invites tender for RESA works at Calicut airport ahead of completion of land acquisition

Kondotty: The Airport Authority of India has expedited preliminary works for lengthening the RESA (Runway and Safety Area) of Calicut International Airport.

Deciding not to wait any longer for the completion of land acquisition, the AAI invited tenders for construction activities. Meanwhile, the government has fast-tracked their attempts to complete land acquisition. Verification of the land documents commenced on Thursday.
Three individuals from Pallikkal village and six others from Nediyiruppu village have submitted their documents so far. After verification, the land owners will receive compensation if there are no legal or technical hindrances. The money will be transferred directly to their bank accounts. House owners will receive Rs 10 lakh under the rehabilitation package beforehand. The remaining payment will be credited only after vacating the land.
Meanwhile, authorities have set up facilities for hearing the grievances of the property owners. The state government had earlier promised to allot land for developmental works at the airport by September 15. The tenders for the project worth Rs 402.18 crore will be finalised in the upcoming months.
The company that wins the tender will have to start work within 90 days. The delay in land acquisition will not affect the initial works. A total of 19 months have been allowed for the expansion of RESA. The officials are trying to address the issues of the locals concerning the project through discussions.
