Rajkot International Airport likely to start operations on Sept 10

Rajkot: The newly inaugurated Rajkot International Airport in Hirsar is expected to become fully operational starting from September 10th.

According to official sources from the Airport Authority of India (AAI), all necessary preparations are in the final stages to commence operations at Hirasar International Airport. It has been confirmed that all operations will begin at Hirasar on September 10th. The last flight from the existing old Rajkot airport will take off on the night of September 8, following which all operations at the outgoing Rajkot airport will cease. All airline companies have also been notified to adjust their schedules accordingly.

The Airport Authority’s relocation is scheduled for September 9. Consequently, all airport operations will be suspended for one day on this date to facilitate the transfer of equipment from Rajkot Airport to Hirasar Airport. Various equipment, including ladders and baggage trolleys from Rajkot airport, will be shifted to Hirasar airport by midnight on the 9th.

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated this Greenfield airport on July 27.  The Greenfield Airport is being developed on a total land area of more than 2500 acres at a cost of more than Rs 1400 crore. The new airport has an amalgamation of modern technology and sustainable features. The terminal building is GRIHA-4 compliant (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment), and the New Terminal Building (NITB) is equipped with various sustainability features like a double-insulated Roofing System, skylights, LED Lighting, Low Heat Gain Glazing, etc.
