The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, is set to inaugurate seven substantial projects at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) in Kochi on Monday. These initiatives are expected to significantly upgrade the airport's infrastructure and services, providing a more seamless and comfortable experience for its users.
One of the key projects being inaugurated is the operation of the Import Cargo Terminal. This new facility will bolster CIAL’s cargo handling capacity, increasing it to an impressive two lakh metric tonne annually. The enhancement in cargo handling capabilities will not only boost trade but also improve efficiency and speed up operations.
Vijayan will also launch DigiYatra software developed by CIAL's IT wing with an aim to streamline services for passengers. Although details about this software have not been disclosed yet, it is anticipated that this digital solution will simplify processes and enhance customer service at the airport.
In addition to these developments, Vijayan will inaugurate upgraded Airport Emergency Services at CIAL. The Fire and Rescue force has been enhanced with two Austrian-made fire engines along with other advanced vehicles as part of safety measures undertaken by the airport authority.
The first phase of expansion for Terminal 3 is another project that will be launched by Vijayan. Alongside this expansion plan, he will also unveil an intrusion detection system aimed at bolstering security within the airport premises. The chief minister further announced plans for launching a luxury aeroplane lounge named "0484" which boasts 42 luxury guest rooms, a restaurant, mini conference hall among other facilities spread over a sprawling area of 50,000 sq ft., making it the largest lounge facility in India.
