Muruganandam Takes Charge as AAI Southern Region Executive Director

V. Muruganandam has assumed charge as Regional Executive Director (Southern Region) of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in Chennai. He took over the position on June 17, 2026, bringing with him more than 35 years of experience in Communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems. Since joining AAI in December 1989, Muruganandam has played a key role in the planning, installation, operation, maintenance and modernization of aviation infrastructure across the country, earning recognition as a leading aviation professional in the field of air navigation services.

Throughout his career, Muruganandam has developed extensive expertise in Air Navigation Services and airport systems and has undergone specialized training in India as well as overseas, including in Norway, South Korea and France. An ICAO TRAINAIR-certified course developer and instructor, he has designed standardized training packages and contributed significantly to competency-based aviation training. He is also an ICAO-trained Safety Management professional who has conducted numerous safety workshops across southern India and has been instrumental in implementing quality management systems at AAI airports as a certified ISO 9001 Internal Auditor.

Prior to his latest appointment, Muruganandam served as Chief Instructor (CNS) at the Civil Aviation Training College (CATC), Prayagraj. He is widely acknowledged for his leadership during major operational challenges, including the Chennai floods of 2015, Cyclone Vardah in 2016, the COVID-19 pandemic and severe weather disruptions in Chennai in 2023, helping ensure uninterrupted air navigation services. As Regional Executive Director, he will oversee the operations and development of more than 30 airports across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry and Lakshadweep, with a focus on safety, operational efficiency and capacity enhancement. An Electronics and Communication Engineer, he holds an MS in Advanced ANSP Management from ENAC, France, an MBA in Operations and Finance from Anna University, an ME in Digital Systems, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Aviation Operations.
