Costly affair: Indoreans skip air travel after fare hike

Indore: Blame it on economic slowdown or aviation bubble burst, consistent hike in airfare by 20-25%, is leading to a decline in number of air passengers in city. As compared to the previous year, the first six months of this year have seen a decline in number of air passengers from Indore, as per Airport Authority of India (AAI) data.
Aviation sector experts predict that there are even worse days in store for flyers. With devaluation of rupee and increase in the price of aviation fuel, numbers of passengers are not expected to increase in coming months also. Secretary of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh chapter of Travel Agent Association of India (TAAI), Harish Wadhwani, said that corporate passengers or people going abroad constitute major chunk of flyers from state, but now due to consistent hike in fare, number of people going abroad, have come down. The gloomy economic condition has even affected number of corporate travellers.
